Watch Netflix Movie Obsession

Obsession is indeed a fierce thing—a high from someone's warm breaths, the burning sensation of warm kisses, the melody of intoxicated sighs. When the body starts to beat like the heart... Allahu Akbar. I apologize! I got a bit emotional there.

I wanted to write about this film titled "جنونیت" (Obsession). Wise people say that desire and longing can take a person anywhere. This film is much like that.

A son brings his fiancée, Anna, to meet his family. There, his unreasonable father, named William, sees the girl—then at a party, Anna meets the girl's father. William looks at Anna as if he could devour her. The girl sees such pure and sacred feelings in his eyes. But then, William reluctantly agrees to meet her.

However, this agreement is much like a political party's in our country. The story progresses. As William sees Anna, his desire to possess her grows. And our innocent Anna gradually starts to open her arms—and ends up opening them too wide. What happens next is something that has occurred between men and women for centuries.

Married folks might wonder, "What? A fight?" No, dear. What happens before the fight is what I'm talking about. Our naive and cute Anna takes William on a tour of worldly paradise. After that, William forgets that he is married, with a wife and children, and that the heavenly realms he is exploring do not belong to him. He wants to seize this paradise like India has occupied Kashmir.

Perhaps all men occasionally wish to forget they are married. But only a few like William actually do. So, William becomes consumed with just one thought: Anna and her beautiful valleys. Throughout the film, this "coming and going" with Anna continues.

His son Jay, who is unaware, doesn't realize that the girl he is with is gradually losing her innocence in the process of becoming a woman. While he wants to read the book of her body, her lecherous father is busy memorizing its verses.

As you watch, you might find tears welling up. The film portrays its narrative and themes so transparently that you’ll come to understand some Urdu idioms, like having your eyes wide open, being speechless, feeling lifeless when cut, and seeing stars during the day.

So, it's also a good movie for Urdu language enthusiasts. After observing all the captivating scenes, we still may not uncover the story as deeply as William unravels Anna’s.

Perhaps it illustrates the obsession of a man and the hunger and madness of a woman. When a man becomes infatuated with a woman, he thinks of nothing else. William does what everyone desires—he just doesn’t admit it. In the film, William’s wife leaves him.

In our culture, our wives may leave us, but where they leave us is called a grave. So, think twice before seeking such an adventure. Consider what you have as manna from heaven, demonstrate honesty and fidelity, and live a long life!

As I mentioned, this film depicts the desires of men and women—men do what they want, women do what they wish. As for us, we do what we can.
